More than "study abroad"
EMU was one of the first colleges to require cross-cultural study for all students more than three decades ago. Now we have one of the strongest cross-cultural study programs available.
EMU cross-cultural is more than study abroad. It's a unique chance to change your outlook and grow in your faith. It's an opportunity to learn about yourself and the broader world, developing character and values while building relationships.
New culture, new perspective
Whether it's a cross-cultural experience in a new North American setting – such as Washington, D.C. or in a Native American community – or in another country, students regularly consider the time "life changing."
Our program gets students into homes with local people, like Bedouin tents in Egypt and in the townships of South Africa, for example. Host "sisters" and "brothers" provide companionship, insight and support in language learning for EMU students.
An EMU cross-cultural is a chance to truly see the world through new lenses!
