Eastern Mennonite University

Give to IC3

To sustain this expansive “communities of learning” project, the IC3 project welcomes the generous support of individuals, foundations, faith-based organizations, and other state - and non-state actors.

Your support will help underwrite the following needs:

  • faculty upgrading scholarships for participating faculty from Vietnam and Iran, who earn M.A.-level degrees in Education, Conflict Transformation, and Development even as they collaborate in the drafting of the 150 lessons and chapters of this five-year curriculum
  • curriculum development costs, including the drafting of lessons and chapters, the creation and maintenance of web-based resources, and the purchase of academic materials that are shared across all participating institutions
  • participation in international study tours and conferences where our enrolled students launch, test, put into practice, and present academic papers on IC3 concepts, lessons, and values
  • a biweekly foreign film series that links campuses in Iran, Vietnam, and the United States
  • travel stipends for Iranian and Vietnamese students who venture to Eastern Mennonite University to meet face-to-face the participants and culture at this end of the exchange; presently, EMU students, faculty, and staff pay their own travel and tuition costs for travel to Iran and Vietnam
  • institutional overhead; to date, EMU has generously covered considerable Information Systems, Blackboard, and staff costs to help effect this IC3 expansive communities of learning – it is approaching the point where the project must reimburse its hosting institutions for their infrastructural and staff support
  • pedagogical workshops for new teachers and institutions exploring the usefulness of this IC3 approach to inter-cultural and development learning

Please send you generous support to Eastern Mennonite University, c/o Dr. Dan Wessner, International and Political Studies, 1200 Park Road, Harrisonburg, VA 22802. Designate on your check “EMU IC3” to ensure immediate and proper deposit into our account. You will receive in a short period of time an acknowledgement from EMU for your fully tax-deductible contribution.

Our operating budget, including scholarships, stipends, and contract work, averages $74,000 per year. This is modest, given the reach of our project and the fact that six more countries are eager to join our expansive communities of learning. Our MCC seed money grant expires this year. So again, we appreciate deeply your generous support.
