Interlibrary Loans
Purpose:Interlibrary loan services may be used when needed research materials (books, journal articles, etc.) are not owned by EMU Hartzler Library. EMU provides ILL for EMU faculty, staff and students.
Requests
- Before requesting an interlibrary loan you are expected to check whether EMU Hartzler Library owns the particular item needed. You may check Sadie, the online catalog, or the A to Z list of periodicals for journal titles and holdings.
- The Library will not request items owned by EMU through interlibrary loan. If items are checked out, patrons may place a hold on the items. Items are recalled once they have been checked out for two weeks.
- Some databases included a link to an interlibrary loan form.
- Requests can also be submitted electronically from this page. There are two different forms, one for Books and one for Journal articles. When using these forms please fill them out as completely and accurately as possible.
Receiving Loans
- Interlibrary Loan requests are usually sent to the prospective lending library within 24 hours after patrons have placed a request. Allow one to two weeks for a loan to be received.
- You will receive an email when Interlibrary loan items have arrived and are available for pick up.
- Books and other returnables maybe picked up at the Circulation desk at the library.
- The library receives most journal articles electronically. Articles sent this way will be forwarded to you electronically. You will receive an email notification with instructions for viewing and printing the document. The system will automatically remove the document after it is viewed 10 times or after 28 days have passed since you receive e-mail notification, whichever comes first. Documents may be viewed at the following web site. http://www.emu.edu/ariel/
Charges
- There are no charges for an interlibrary loan unless we contact you to discuss the lending libraries’ cost.
- Patrons who borrow books from other libraries through interlibrary loan are expected to comply with any special instructions, ie. In library use only, and the due date listed on the book strap. Interlibrary loan items not returned on time will generate a fine of $5.00 per day per item.
Renewals
- Most libraries do not renew interlibrary loans.
