EMU's physical plant staff, led by longtime director Eldon Kurtz, maintains more than 40 buildings on campus and nearly 100 acres of grounds.
EMU was one of the three national leaders in efficient energy use out of 90 colleges and universities surveyed by the Association of Higher Education Facilities Officers.
In September, 2008 physical plant staff oversaw the demolition of Oakwood dorm to make way for a new residence hall with LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.

The physical plant offices are located on Parkwood Drive between Oakwood Residence Hall and Parkwood Apartments.

In the residence halls, a residence director is on call 24 hours a day to respond to emergencies or incidents which occur on campus. The director can be reached at 476-4578.
